چکیده

Kidney transplantation (KTx) is the treatment of choice for end-stage renal disease [1]. Compared with dialysis it confers a survival advantage, enhances quality of life and is more cost-effective. There are two types of potential donors in renal transplants: deceased and living donors. Transplantation from living donors provides better survival rates in comparison to those from deceased ones [2]. Furthermore, transplantation from living donors could be the solution for the shortage of cadaveric donated organs. Unfortunately, for many years a significant number of potential living donors were rejected due to blood group incompatibility with the recipient. ABO-incompatibility was considered to be an absolute contraindication to transplantation. However, during the last 15years the implementation of new transplant protocols has significantly diminished this barrier and has lead the way for the induction of ABO-incompatible (ABOi) transplantation worldwide.

ABO Incompatible Kidney Transplantation—Current Status and Uncertainties

In the past, ABO blood group incompatibility was considered an absolute contraindication for kidney transplantation. Progress in defined desensitization practice and immunologic understanding has allowed increasingly successful ABO incompatible transplantation during recent years. This paper focused on the history, disserted outcomes, desensitization modalities and protocols, posttransplant imm...

Clinical outcomes of ABO-incompatible kidney transplant with rituximab and double-filtration plasmapheresis.

OBJECTIVES The best treatment for end-stage renal disease is kidney transplant, but the shortage of donor organs has caused long waiting times for an appropriate organ allograft. The use of ABO-incompatible kidney transplant can be a valuable option to expand the donor pool. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate 13 patients who had successful ABO-incompatible kidney transplant with d...

Analysis of the Results of ABO-Incompatible Kidney Transplantation: In Comparison with ABO-Compatible Kidney Transplantation

PURPOSE The number of patients waiting for kidney transplantation is incessantly increasing, but the number of cadaveric kidney transplantations or ABO-compatible donors is so insufficient that ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation is being performed as an alternative. There are overseas studies and research showing that the 5-year survival rate and 5-year graft survival rate of ABO-incompati...

ABO-Incompatible Renal Transplantation with High Antibody Titer: A Case Report

BACKGROUND Even though renal transplantation across blood groups is not uncommonly practiced nowadays, there is still hesitation regarding ABO-incompatible transplantation with very high baseline antibody titer. In this case report, the outcome of an ABO-incompatible kidney transplant recipient with a high baseline isoagglutinin titer is reported. CASE REPORT The patient was a non-diabetic, 33-...

ABO-incompatible living-donor pediatric kidney transplantation in Japan

The Japanese ABO-Incompatible Transplantation Committee officially collected and analyzed data on pediatric ABO-incompatible living-donor kidney transplantation in July 2012. The age of a child was defined as <16 years, and 89 children who had undergone ABO-incompatible living-donor kidney transplantation from 1989 to 2011 were entered in a registry. These data were presented as the Japanese re...
